If you haven’t seen Danny Boyle’s Indian epic, Slumdog Millionaire, you must do so forthwith. It’s a truly amazing movie. The cinematography is phenomenal. Any given frame could be a photo in National Geographic.
A lot of the dialogue is in Hindi. Most of it is subtitled (which was handled in an innovative way), but some words are not translated, especially the swear words. I was once in a bad relationship with a subcontinental female so I learned a lot of these terms because they were directed at me. That’s all in the past now and the upside is it made Slumdog Millionaire a richer experience for me. Yay.
Chaiwalla = Tea guy. Anything ending in “walla” means “the guy associated with that thing”.
Computer-ji = Mr. Computer. Anything ending in “ji” shows respect, whereas “walla” is kind of informal.
Madar Chod = Motherfucker
Bhain Chod = Sisterfucker
Chutia = Pussy
Gand = Asshole
Feel free to combine them, e.g. bhain chod chutia is “sister-fucking pussy”.
Oh, and gora is a pejorative for “white guy”.
